Downloading assets

On this page

Terminology reminder

An asset is an entry within Portfolio, which includes an original file and lots of metadata used to organize your assets within the confines of the Portfolio environment.

When you download an asset, the result of the download is a file. The asset still exists, unchanged, within Portfolio, and you can work with your downloaded file as needed.

Downloading originals

To download unaltered copies of the original asset files:

  1. Select one or more assets;

  2. Right-click one of the assets;

  3. Choose Download Selection from the shortcut menu.

    If you selected one asset, Portfolio will send it directly to your browser’s Downloads folder.

    If you selected more than one asset, Portfolio will compress them into a file named assets.zip which it will send to your Downloads folder.

Advanced tip: With vault catalogs, Portfolio offers the ability to manage asset versions, allowing you to check out an asset, work on it, then check it back in to Portfolio.

Downloading in another format

To download files in another format, you can use Portfolio’s Batch Process feature:

  1. Select one or more assets;

  2. Click Batch Process;

  3. Select Convert;

  4. Specify format, size, and other conversion parameters;

  5. Select Download the new files;

  6. Click Batch Process.

    If you have selected more than one asset, Portfolio will compress them into an archive file named assets.zip and send it to your Downloads folder.

    If you have selected a single asset, Portfolio will download the file without compression.
